About Tiger Hill
A London-based investment firm identifying exceptional value in cyclical industries and geographies where others see only noise.
The Firm
Tiger Hill Advisors is a London-based hedge fund with a global mandate, including significant Asian equity exposure. We focus on well-managed companies in cyclical industries or geographies that have fallen out of favour. Fundamentals remain sound, but sentiment has temporarily obscured value.
Our approach is grounded in free cash flow analysis, management quality assessment, and a disciplined respect for valuation. We do not chase megatrends. We look for good companies where there is not much competition for the idea. And we wait.
Tiger Hill's edge lies in combining deep fundamental research with a willingness to go where others won't: Asian small caps, out-of-favour cyclicals, and complex special situations that require genuine analytical work to understand.
Investment Philosophy
Paying a fair price is the single most reliable risk management tool available. We never lose sight of cyclicality and valuation, regardless of how compelling the underlying business appears.
The best opportunities arise when exceptional businesses face temporary headwinds: macro cycles, geopolitical noise, or sector-wide de-ratings. We do the work to distinguish the permanent from the transient.
Shareholder-aligned management is non-negotiable. We study capital allocation track records, compensation structures, and founder economics before anything else.
Competition for ideas destroys returns. We seek geographies and industries that institutional investors systematically underweight, where disciplined research creates a genuine informational edge.
We're focused on making money as opposed to chasing some faddish megatrends. We look for good companies when and where there's not much competition for the idea.

The Founder
Yilun Chen's investment journey began in childhood in Germany, where his parents rewarded academic achievement with money he could put to work. His earliest investments, Nokia and CommerceOne during the dotcom bubble, taught him lessons about cycles and valuation that have shaped every decision since.
After training in investment banking, Yilun moved to the buy side, specialising in special situations investing before co-founding Tiger Hill Advisors. His mandate is intentionally global, with a particular emphasis on Asian equities, markets that Western institutional capital routinely underweights, creating persistent mispricings for patient, research-driven investors.
Yilun is an active contributor to the Value Investors Club and has been recognised for his original research on companies including Modern Dental Group and Xiaomi. He approaches each investment from first principles, combining deep industry analysis with a sceptical eye toward consensus narratives and fashionable themes.
Our Edge
Tiger Hill's investment universe spans cyclical industrials, specialty chemicals, Asian consumer brands, and complex special situations. What these share is structural underrepresentation in institutional portfolios. Not because the businesses are poor, but because they require genuine work to understand.
We are particularly alert to the intersection of Wright's Law and competitive dynamics: industries where products naturally become cheaper over time confound analysts who model pricing power linearly. Understanding this creates opportunities in sectors others dismiss as commoditised.
In Asian markets, Tiger Hill focuses on companies building genuine global brands: businesses with the design, manufacturing, and distribution infrastructure to compete internationally at structurally lower price points than incumbent Western rivals.
